Patrick Oates

Patrick is the Retired Head of Oldham School of Art & Design with over thirty five years experience in Art Education, with specialist knowledge of working with Adult Learners.  He is an exhibiting Painter, Sculptor & Ceramicist and also an Art Historian who fully integrates beautifully illustrated evening slide lectures into his practical workshops, to give real context to the learning experience.

Patrick’s Workshops have been described as ’Inspirational’ in the support & guidance he gives, not only to beginners to the subject, but also Learners with more experience.  Moreover, to people disabled through Stroke or who have difficulty in ‘hand/arm coordination, he introduces a number of techniques which retrieve dexterity and restore confidence and pleasure to art-making.

His workshops are welcoming, vibrant, good humoured and full interactive.  Personal creative development underpins all activities, and a session of constructive appraisal of works at course end is seen as an opportunity to learn and share progression ideas with other members.
