The machine will need to be in good working order.
The course includes a practical introduction to design, using colour, line, shape, form and texture. During the year you will interpret paper based exercises into machine embroidery and experiment with a variety of materials, colouring, printing, stencilling, creating and manipulating fabrics. The decorative application of machine embroidery, practical stitches, automatic patterning and free embroidery using a variety of threads will be explored. Ideas for cords, edgings and braids, will be investigated as finishes to work. Design skills and knowledge will be applied using machine embroidery techniques leading to two finished pieces. One piece using straight and zigzag stitches and the second piece showing innovative tehcniques. Two finished pieces, a set of ten samples and a folder of work will be assessed.
